Three laws

August 7

Daily Bible Reading: Romans 8:1 – 18

Verse of the Day: Romans 8:2 – “For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus made me free from the law of sin and of death.”

The Greek term used for law in this passage means an inward principle that works with the regularity of a law. It designates the standard of the life of a person. Paul in his writing points out three such laws.

First is the “law of sin” which we often call the operation of the flesh. It is what causes us to sin. Then he spoke of “the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus” that frees us from the bondage to the “law of sin and death.”

When we are governed in our daily life by the Holy Spirit, we can and should have victory over “the law of sin.” The Spirit living in us provides what we need to rise above the law that would seek to destroy us. It comes from our relationship with Jesus Christ.

Prayer: Holy Spirit, it is my desire and earnest prayer that You would lead me in the path that allows “the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus” to free me from “the law of sin.”
